The history of copier leasing
Did you know about one of the first copier leases in the United States?
In 1960, Haloid-Xerox (the precursor to the modern-day Xerox) introduced its first copier to the market at $29,500. The copier lease was set at $95/month and included 2,000 free copies. Additional copies under the copier leasing arrangement were 4 cents. Service was included and the rest was history.
The first copier lease was met with skepticism but proved to be a valued added cost management tool for businesses. Moreover, the magic of making copies was not lost on an administrative staff burdened by mimeographic machines.
Today, Xerox leases the iGen3- a digital production press with a new pricetag of somewhere between $600,000 and $800,000 depending on its features. The copier lease sure has come a long way.
